1975: PARAMEDICS International Magazine

PARAMEDICS International was founded and published by Ron Simmons, a fire captain with the El Segundo, California Fire Department within the shadows of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Simmons had previously graduated from the Los Angeles County paramedic program at Harbor General Hospital and also had a background as both a writer and publisher for automotive magazines.

In the Fall of 1975, PARAMEDICS International magazine was launched with a mission of projecting nationwide paramedic issues, accomplishments and concerns. The legendary Jim Page and Dr. Ron Stewart were also recruited to serve in a contributing editorial role during the 70's.

PARAMEDICS International magazine captured not only a national, but also an international field paramedic and advanced life support perspective. The magazine was especially remembered for its vivid full-page color, and black and white photos of paramedics in action thanks to the great photography skill of Los Angeles City paramedic Rick McClure who often travelled with Simmons throughout his journalistic travels. Some of the travels took them to Northern Ireland, Russia and other foriegn EMS systems. The publication also developed a journalist staff of seasoned veteran paramedics to serve as reporting correspondents.

In the very early 80's PARAMEDICS International was purchased by Jim Page and transformed into JEMS Magazine.  Paramedics International Magazine will be remembered as one of the early EMS publications arena that followed even earlier pioneer publications such as Emergency Medical Services Magazine in the Fall of 1972.
